If I make a complaint will my name go on record?
Yes, in accordance with the Sunshine Law, all complaints are public record including the person's name filing the complaint. You may choose to remain anonymous but will not receive any follow up information from the Code Enforcement Officers.

Do you look at other properties other than the one that was reported?
Yes, when a complaint is filed about one property our inspectors look at the entire neighborhood for violations. |
Does my construction need a permit?
Probably. A good rule of thumb - Any construction that wind will affect generally needs a permit. Click here for more details. |
What do Code Enforcement Officers enforce?
The Code Enforcement Officers enforce violations with the county's code found on the outside of the home. Our Building Inspectors enforce building codes. Click here to view the Flagler County Code.

Who enforces the lighting ordinance to protect sea turtles?
Our Code Enforcement Officers patrol the beach during turtle season (May 1 - October 31) on a non-routine basis. The officers oversee the volunteers who patrol the beach. If you would like to become a volunteer please contact the Code Enforcement office.

What is Flagler County's policy on signs?

What are the most common code violations?
- Zoning Compliance - boat and RVs parked in front yards, junk cars, abandoned vehicles, lot maintenance
- Lot and Lawn Maintenance - growth cannot exceed 20 inches
- Waste Materials and Trash - must be properly disposed of and not stored on property
- Construction - most construction projects require a permit
- Unsafe Buildings - abandoned buildings will be "red tagged" by code enforcement and the building department. These must be repaired or removed.
