Public information is one arm of the Innovation Technology's Communications Division responsible for keeping the public informed about the business of the Board of County Commissioners through a variety of mediums including newspaper, radio, television, and online. The communications staff writes news releases, plans news conferences, and responds to inquiries from the media.
Additionally, the communications staff provides information to the public during local emergencies. For example, more than 50 news releases specific to Hurricane Irma were issued from September 6 to September 15, as well as coordinating 3 news conferences, 2 live television broadcasts, numerous telephone interviews, and participating in 25 radio programs.
The Communications Division attends and supports annual community events held throughout the year, including the Flagler Home Show, Job Fair, Memorial and Veterans Day events, and the Pink Army. Events, meetings, and staff training are visually documented by still photography and videos.
The Communications Manager also serves as Records Management Liaison Officer and fulfills Public Records Requests.
