Traffic Sign Technician
Flagler County Government is accepting resumes and completed county employment applications to work as a Traffic Sign Technician in the Public Works Department. Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to perform skilled work in the fabrication, assembly, installation and repair of road, highway, traffic and informational signs and markings on county maintained roads.
DUTIES: Installs traffic control, warning, street, construction and other regulatory signs in county maintained areas. Fabricates, repairs and maintains required signs. Adheres to established governmental guidelines for uniformity, proper location of sign and meeting standards in the interest of public safety. Maintains and documents sign inventory. Keeps records of sign activities. Maintains adequate supply of materials, equipment, and tools required to fulfill work assignments. Cleans, maintains and services required equipment used during performance of work assignments. Washes, cleans and gives routine first level maintenance to the equipment. Performs manual laboring tasks as assigned such as pothole patching, shoulder repair, tree trimming and other duties. Maybe assigned to operate heavier equipment on a temporary, emergency, or trainee basis. Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Some experience in public sign installation, inspection and repair. Knowledge of Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and any other relevant guidelines and codes. Knowledge of methods, procedures, materials, equipment and tools used for the fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of traffic control signs, pavement markings and related regulatory and warning devices. Knowledge of the proper placement of barricades and signage for road and lane closures needed for the protection of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Knowledge of county geography; map reading skills. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
