Solid Waste Facilities
Flagler County has three closed landfills. One is located within the City of Bunnell, and the other two are located within Flagler Beach on Old Kings Road.
A household hazardous waste collection center and recycle drop-off center is operated at the closed C & D Facility, located at 1700 South Old Kings Road. Operating hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. This service is provided free of charge to Flagler County residents.
Hazardous waste accepted at the landfill includes:
- Used motor oil
- Lead-acid and rechargeable batteries
- Thinners / solvents
- Pool chemicals
- Fluorescent light bulbs
Curbside recycling is offered in Flagler County by the respective waste hauler. Plastic and glass bottles, aluminum and steel cans, cardboard, and newspaper are the recyclables collected curbside.
Other recyclable materials that may be disposed of at the landfill (but not curbside) are cardboard, waste oil, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, metal cans, office paper, and newspaper.
Small County Solid Waste Grant
Currently, Flagler County qualifies for a Small County Solid Waste Grant administered through the FDEP based on a population of fewer than 110,000 residents. The grant award for fiscal year 2016 is $90,909.00, which covers some of the operating expenditures associated with this program.
The Solid Waste Division employs two full-time employees and one part-time employee, one household hazardous waste technician who operates the collection center, one maintenance technician who provides for the long term care of the three closed facilities, and a part-time accountant who oversees the funding, grant, and contracted engineering services contracts.
