About 4-H
4-H is a voluntary, educational program designed to meet the needs and interests of boys and girls. 4-H members, parents, and volunteer leaders have great fun learning and working together in county and club activities, project groups, special interest groups, and endless special interest events. Specifically, 4-H programs help the individual:
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Gain knowledge and skills in various project areas
  • Become self reliant
  • Use scientific methods in making and solving problems
  • Explore careers

Volunteer Opportunities
There are many volunteer opportunities in Florida 4-H. Volunteers can:
  • Mentor youth in a special project (like photography, rocketry, fitness, or citizenship)
  • Lead a 4-H club
  • Attend camp with young people
  • Teach a skill
  • Encourage and support growth in young people

4-H volunteers are supported by a professional staff in every county, who are University of Florida faculty members. A county 4-H agent is responsible for the county's 4-H program, and may also have state and national responsibilities.
