Disposing of Electronic Waste
Many types of electronic products used in the workplace and homes contain hazardous substances like lead and mercury. Products like computers, printers, scanners, digital alarm clocks, cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions, monitors, or almost anything with a circuit board can contain these substances.

When these products reach the end of their useful lives or become obsolete or broken, some are considered hazardous waste. In general, hazardous waste may not be discarded in the regular trash. Instead, it must be sent to a facility that has a permit for treatment (including recycling), storage, or disposal.

Household Hazardous Waste Facility
Flagler County offers a hazardous waste facility to assist with the disposal of much of this material. The facility can assist with the recycling or disposal of these items:
  • Computers, such as desktops, laptops, mini-towers, towers, all-in-ones, etc. A $5 fee will be assessed for CRT monitor disposal.
  • Computer peripherals and accessories, including keyboards, mice, zip drives, external hard drives, external floppy drives, external DVD / CD drives, flat-screen monitors, post-1999 SVGA monitors, scanners, printers, speakers, battery back-up units, related cables, etc.
  • Other digital equipment, including digital cameras, recorders, GPS units and related hardware, and remote controls
  • Audio / video equipment, such as amplifiers, receivers, DVD players, VCRs, cassette and reel to reel tape players, turntables, and related electrical hardware
  • Power tools, plug-in and rechargeable power tools, battery packs, and chargers
  • Communications equipment such as portable radios, ham radios, pagers, cell phones, and cordless and wired phones
  • Televisions (except CRT televisions) and remote controls
  • Rechargeable appliances including dustbusters, shavers, flashlights, small toys, fans, toothbrushes, etc.
