Specific job responsibilities and candidate requirements are detailed in the volunteer positions document, which you can request from our staff. All positions require attendance at a training session.
The Flagler County Public Library always needs volunteers to support staff and participate in special programs or projects. The library has a limited budget, and without volunteers we would be unable to offer the wide variety of materials, programs, and services the community has come to expect.
Matching Volunteers & Positions
It’s important to find the position that best utilizes the talents and interests of our volunteers. A staff member will meet with you and conduct a short interview to determine the best fit for the library.
Because we depend on volunteers in the same ways we depend on staff, volunteers are expected to work at the library on the date and time they signed up for. If you cannot make the date / time you committed to, please contact us as soon as possible at (386) 446-6763 or email our Volunteer Liaison
. At the same time, we pledge to treat our volunteers with respect and offer them a voice in library operations and programs. We see volunteers as partners, and we hope they will feel a sense of ownership in the library.
Orientation & Training
We require all volunteers who will be working in the library to complete a short orientation and training program. The program is designed to acquaint you with staff and the operations of the library. Orientation will introduce you to some of the basics of the position. However, staff will help you and continue to work with you until you feel comfortable on your own. Some positions require more intensive training. In these cases, you will work closely with a staff member to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills.
Tracking of Hours
The library has a monthly sign-in / sign-out sheet set up for each volunteer. It is the responsibility of the individual volunteer to ensure that they fill in these sheets to include totaling their hours at the end of each month.
