Flagler County Commission meetings and the Flagler County School Board meetings are going live.
The two countywide elected boards will be broadcast live on Bright House Networks Government channel after the first of the year. Flagler County has been working with Bright House to bring in a fiber optic connection to allow the county to broadcast live. The connection to Bright House Networks cable system is inside the new Emergency Operations Center on the 78 acre Flagler County Government Center taking shape just south of Town Center on S.R. 100.
The purpose of the system is twofold. The first priority is to provide emergency information county-wide to residents during emergencies of all kinds including fires and hurricanes. The second purpose of the system is to keep citizens informed about their government and provide open access from the comfort of home to residents who want to participate in their government.
“Live coverage of county and School Board meetings takes television coverage and citizen access to their government to the next level,” said County Administrator Doug Wright. “The county plans to work with city governments in providing coverage of their meetings on a countywide channel.”
The county is planning a series of meetings with all the cities in the county to discuss how coverage and airing of their meetings could occur. Wright said the goal is to provide a comprehensive county channel that keeps citizens informed about their government.
Television productions of county projects, issues and information in addition to state and regional government information will be provided. The county also plans to broadcast City, County and School Board meetings and information on all elected offices in the county.
