A formal ribbon cutting ceremony dedicating the completion of paving Old Kings Road from Forest Grove in Palm Coast to U.S. 1 near the north county line will take place at 9 a.m. Thursday September 28.
The ceremony will be a mile and a half north of the Matanzas High School on Old Kings Road. Flagler County Commissioners and various city and county elected officials will attend the event. The public is invited.
The new paved road will connect the north end of Palm Coast east of I-95 to U.S. 1 and provide a new exit route for city residents. It takes advantage of an interstate overpass on Old Kings Road constructed at the time I-95 was built through Flagler County. The two lane road was constructed with transportation impact fees collected in Eastern Flagler County. A one and a half mile portion of the roadway was constructed by Flagler County Public Works and another three mile section was constructed by Halifax Paving under a county contract.
The paving project is one of two projects undertaken by the county to connect Palm Coast east and west. The second project is the Matanzas Woods overpass due to be completed in December and dedicated to public use in a ceremony on Dec. 5.
