Planning and Zoning
Planing and Zoning Department ensures the health, safety and general welfare of the public through the adoption of, and enforcement of zoning regulations.
The office maintains and regularly updates the Comprehensive Plan and the Land Development Code. In addition, the Planning and Zoning Department reviews all land development and building permits for compliance with Comprehensive Plan goals, objectives, policies, zoning regulations, and concurrency requirements.
The office informs the public through the public hearing process of land development occurring in the unincorporated areas of the County, and solicits public comment.
The office works closely with incorporated cities and towns within the County and neighboring jurisdictions as well as with state and federal agencies.
The office performs environmental protection preservation activities; including gopher tortoise relocation, wetland permitting, manatee protection and related functions.
